In Clearfield remains one of the county prisons designed by the son of famed prison architect John Haviland.  Edward Haviland followed his father’s trade, but did not accomplish his level of fame or fortune.  Edward spent considerable time in central Pennsylvania, having also designed the old Cambria County Jail in Ebensburg, and the Blair County Prison in Hollidaysburg that is still in use.  The old Clearfield County jail is no longer used for incarceration, though it doesn’t look entirely abandoned.
