Designed by architect James Warner, and built in 1889, the Lancaster Central Market claims to be the nation’s oldest continuously operated farmers market. Though Lancaster is a smaller city, the Central Market is in a class with other grand urban markets such as Cleveland’s West Side Market and Baltimore’s Lexington Market. The American Planning Association named the Central Market one of the Top 10 Great Public Places in 2009.
